Moderation policy and process

The moderation process helps ensure that comments that are spam or breach the terms of use are not published. It is the Guide Review team’s intention to publish most comments immediately and not hinder conversation. If an error occurs, please let us know and we will deal with it as quickly as we can.

This blog uses a post-moderation process: users submit a comment, along with their user name and an email address (this is to deter spam robots). Users may choose to include their actual details or post under a pseudonym and include a non-existent email address.

The system will use a language filter to censor offensive language, moderate comments based on the number of links within it (links being a major part of most comment spam) and either publish the comment or hold it for moderation. If a published comment is found to have breached the terms of use or an unpublished comment is being held by the automated system, a moderator will manually check and then either publish, edit or delete the comment. If a comment is edited, we will include a reference.

If necessary, comments may be escalated internally for further consideration.
